Director of Road Transport
(1) Placed under the authority of a Director, the Department of Road Transport is responsible for:
- the design, formulation and monitoring of the implementation of Government policy on road transport and road safety;
- the formulation and monitoring of the implementation of driving training programmes;
- the design and monitoring of the implementation of the national plan for road safety;
- the formulation of the dashboard of the road transport sector;
- the regular evaluation of the supply and demand of road transport;
- the supervision of professionals of the road transport sector; the issuance, renewal, suspension and withdrawal of driving licences;
- the coordination of all actions for the safety of road transport users, in collaboration with the administrations and organizations concerned;
- the negotiation and monitoring of road transit agreements; the formulation of regulations for passenger transport by road, in collaboration with professional organizations, user associations, regional and local communities and the administrations concerned;
- the monitoring of road tolling and weighing operations, in collaboration with the administrations concerned;
- the monitoring of bodies and structures in charge of road transport.
(2) It comprises:
- the Sub-Department of Road Traffic;
- the Sub-Department of Road Safety;
- the Sub-Department of Road Activities and Professions;
- the Road Traffic and Safety Brigade;
- the Road Statistics and Documentation Service.
